Soundgarden - Spoonman [Single]

"Spoonman" is the first single off of Soundgarden's 1994 breakthrough album, Superunknown. The song was originally written for the 1992 film, Singles, though did not appear on the soundtrack.


Jeff Ament, bassist for Pearl Jam, has started creating song names for the fictional band, Citizen Dick, that would appear in the film. One such name was "Spoonman", inspired by Artis the Spoonman, a street performer in Seattle, Washington, who plays music with a set of spoons. Chris Cornell, songwriter and vocalist for Soundgarden eventually took the title "Spoonman" and added music to it, of which an early acoustic version that can be heard briefly in the background in the film.
